Florida Pallet Supply • Updated July 2026
Dollar General and Dollar Tree are two of the largest retailers in the US by store count, with over 19,000 and 16,000 locations respectively. Both operate high-velocity, cost-sensitive supply chains that put strict requirements on pallet condition, size, and labeling. Suppliers who fail pallet compliance face chargebacks, rejection, or delisting.
Stamped kiln-dried pallet lumber, bulk warehouse stock, dimensional yard inventory, raw softwood logs, and sawmill operations - the supply chain behind every custom and standard pallet we ship.

Both retailers issue chargebacks for pallet non-compliance. Common chargeback triggers: broken or damaged pallets, height violations, missing or incorrect labels, and non-GMA pallet sizes. Neither retailer publishes a chargeback rate card. The amount is set in your vendor agreement and billed per non-compliant pallet or as a flat handling charge per load, so check your own supplier terms for the figure that applies to you. A single rejected truckload can cost $2,000 to $5,000 once chargebacks, return freight, and restocking are added up. Sourcing Grade A recycled GMA pallets from a reliable supplier eliminates most compliance risk.
Suppliers underestimate pallet non-compliance because they price the chargeback and stop there. The chargeback is usually the smallest line on the list. The expensive part is everything the rejection sets in motion after the load leaves the DC door. Here is where the money actually goes when a discount-retailer load gets turned away for a pallet problem.
| Cost component | Who charges it | How it is billed | Why it hurts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pallet chargeback | Retailer vendor compliance | Per non-compliant pallet or flat per load, per your supplier agreement | The visible cost, and usually the smallest one. |
| Return or reconsign freight | Your carrier | Per mile or per load, often at spot rates on short notice | You pay to haul the load twice, and the second leg is not planned freight. |
| Rework and re-palletizing labor | Your dock or a 3PL | Per hour, plus dock door time | Every case gets touched again by people who were scheduled to do other work. |
| Replacement pallets, expedited | Your pallet supplier | Per pallet, at rush rather than planned pricing | You buy compliant pallets anyway, just at the worst possible moment. |
| Missed delivery window | Retailer OTIF program | Percent of PO value, per the vendor agreement | A missed appointment can outweigh every pallet cost combined. |
| Lost sell-through | Nobody bills it | Not invoiced, absorbed as lost revenue | Product that misses the shelf date does not get a second window. |
| Compliance scorecard damage | Retailer merchandising | Not invoiced, applied at review time | Repeat flags follow you into the next buying conversation. |
Cost components and billing bases reflect how discount-retailer vendor compliance programs are typically structured. Actual amounts, OTIF thresholds, and chargeback rates are set in your individual supplier agreement, not published publicly, so confirm each against your own vendor terms.
