Operational details for Illinois
Which compliance standards apply?
GMA 48x40 four-way stringer construction conforms to the National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA) 2014 Uniform Standard; deck board configuration 7-board top, 5-board bottom.
Illinois regulatory context
Chicago Tribune-published wholesale grocery cooperatives use returnable-pallet programs; our buyback pricing for Grade A returns supports cost-control for SUPERVALU, Kehe, and UNFI distribution networks.
Illinois EPA Section 22.6 of the Environmental Protection Act regulates wood pallet recycling; our partner facilities in Chicago, Rockford, and Peoria maintain Illinois EPA registration for return-stream service.
What are the pallet specifications?
48x40 GMA load capacity is 2,800 lb racked (face-loaded), 4,600 lb static, and 2,500 lb dynamic per ASME MH1 2016; deck board span 3.5 inches; deflection under rated load <0.5 inch.
Pallet weight: new GMA averages 38-42 lb per unit; recycled Grade A averages 35-39 lb; lighter chemical-industry 40x40 pallets weigh 28-32 lb; freight estimation should use 40 lb/pallet for inbound planning.
Delivery and logistics
Flatbed delivery handles oversized loads or pallets with overhanging product; tarping included; preferred for export crates and bulk lumber shipments.
Customer use case
Beverage distributors (beer, soda, water) move primarily 48x40 GMA in dry-van loads; standard week sees Mon/Wed/Fri delivery rotation; volume discounts kick in at 200+ pallets per week sustained.
How are these pallets priced?
Custom pallet pricing depends on lumber spec, build complexity, and quantity: small runs (50-200 units) typically $35-55 per unit; large runs (500+ units) drop to $22-32 per unit; quotes returned in <2 hours.
Sustainability
Pallet pooling reduces lifecycle waste 40-60% vs single-use models; our pool program manages inventory between participating customers with quarterly reconciliation.
